You’re right to presume that Kenyans are generally fearless. That’s until the subject of Nairobi River is raised. And rightfully so. We’ve perfected the art of trashing the infamous river and passing on the blame. Luckily, Adopt A River is here to save the day!
Today was World Fish Migration Day. To commemorate the event, Lawrence Ochieng and HyaPak rallied a group of youth to a river cleanup on a section of the river flowing through the John Michuki Memorial Park.
With support from Kenya Forest Service and World Fish Migration Foundation, we managed to get over one ton of waste out of the river!!!!
And that would have been the end of the story, except that Larry had his band members attending too, and together, they treated us to a lovely live musical performance!!!
The river is basically a dead river by the time it starts cascading the CBD. While our cleanups may not be enough to bring it back to its glory days, the community sensitization and education that we do (this day also through distributing pamphlets), may some difference that may be just what the future needs.
